Job description

Position: Mainframe Developer with MQ Expertise

Location:

  • Preferred: New York /New Jersey, Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh), or Florida (Lake Mary)

  • Remote allowed during contract phase; Onsite required 4+ days/week post conversion to FTE

Employment Type: W2 only

Job Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with application teams to determine optimal MQ configurations and implementations.

  • Provision and configure MQ infrastructure on z/OS and distributed platforms.

  • Configure and support:

    • MQ Queue Sharing Groups

    • Clusters and Mainframe Queue Managers

    • Channel authentication and security

    • TLS certificates

  • Analyze and resolve MQ-related alerts and incidents.

  • Provide support for capacity planning, IPL, and Disaster Recovery (DR) events on mainframe systems.

  • Participate in change management processes and contribute to DR readiness.

  • Review and interpret CICS logs to assist in troubleshooting.

  • Offer insights into application-level MQ usage on mainframes.

  • Optional but beneficial: COBOL application development experience.

Job requirements

Must-Have Skills:

  • Mainframe (z/OS) expertise

  • MQ administration and implementation (Queue Sharing Groups, Clusters, Channel Auth)

  • BMW libraries

  • CICS logs

  • MQ-related troubleshooting and DR understanding

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; advanced degree preferred.

  • 8+ years of infrastructure or platform-level mainframe experience.

  • Strong familiarity with:

    • MQ in z/OS environments

    • Channel authentication, security exits, TLS certs

    • MQ DR procedures and upgrade paths on z/OS

  • Basic knowledge of MQ programming in COBOL, C, or Java.

  • Experience working in the financial services or securities sector is a plus.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple concurrent initiatives under pressure.
